Day

Healing
a Blind Man
Then
they came to Jericho. As Jesus and His disciples, together with a large crowd,
were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is the Son of Timaeus),
was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of
Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Many
rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of
David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus
stopped and said, “Call him.”
So
they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.”
Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
“What
do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus
asked him.
The
blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”
“Go,”
said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately
he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. Mark 10:46-52 NIV®

Discussion
Example:
Say,
“It’s pretty amazing that Jesus could miraculously heal all of these people. I
shouldn’t be surprised He could do this, because Jesus is God’s Son. He was
given power to do these miracles from God the Father, so that people would know
He is really truly the Savior that was promised to them in the Old Testament.
“Although
many followed Jesus Christ, because they saw all the miracles He performed,
there were others who couldn’t believe and doubted Jesus. They let people
confuse them and give them reasons why Jesus wasn’t the Son of God, but they
were wrong!
“He
didn’t just go around saying He was God’s Son. Christ knew there would be
people who would say He wasn’t the Savior. So, Jesus did miracles beyond what
any person could do like feeding thousands with a few loaves of bread and a
couple fish, walking on water, and healing people of terrible diseases. These
are all proof of Jesus’ Heavenly power, so we would know He truly is the Son
of God, our Savior and Redeemer.
“In
our lives today, some people, even grown-ups, will try to confuse us and try to
tell us why Jesus isn’t the Savior, but they are mistaken! Jesus isn’t some fairy tale that someone made up. There are enough people who witnessed the many
miracles that Jesus did to fulfill what the Old Testament said our Savior would
say and do and this has been recorded in the Bible. Some may even try to
convince us otherwise, but it’s important that we don’t let others talk us out
of our faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior! Our Salvation depends on it!

Arts
and Crafts Example:
Each
child will need some paper, tape, yarn or string, crayons, crepe paper for
streamers, and access to a hole punch.
Say,
“We are going to make a windsock. You are going to make a picture that reminds
you of Jesus, like the one of Him healing sick people. When you’ve finished
your picture, you are going to make your picture into the shape of a tube and
tape the ends together for your windsock. You will need to use the hole punch
and punch two holes across from each other on the top, but not too close to the
edge. In order to make the top to hang your windsock, you will take a small
piece of string or yarn and tie it to each hole. Raise your hand if you need
help in tying the string.
“Next,
you will take pieces of crepe paper for streamers and tape them to the bottom
edges of your windsock. When you see your windsock, it will remind you of how
Jesus our Savior is with us during the good times and the bad.”

Science
Example:
Each
child or group will need a cup filled to top with water, a basin, bowl or towel
underneath, and a piece of cardboard that completely covers the top of the
glass. (If you do several groups, you will want to have extra pieces of
cardboard, because it won’t work once the cardboard gets soggy.)
Ask
and demonstrate how to hold the cardboard firmly when tipping the glass over,
“What is your Hypothesis about what will happen when you hold the cardboard
firmly to the top of a full glass of water while you tip it over and gently
remove your hand?” Listen to all their Hypotheses.
After
they complete the experiment, let them share their results. Then, explain, “The
air pressure on the outside pushing on the cardboard is greater than the weight
of the water pushing the cardboard from the inside.
“This
is similar to how we will have pressures in life to try to change our faith to
believe what others want. The miracles Jesus did turned the churches and the
government upside down, because the priests wanted the church members to
turn to them with respect, money, and honor. The kings of that time were scared
of Jesus, because they thought He was here to take over their kingdom, but He
was here to give His life for our sins, so that someday we can join Him in
heaven.
“Fortunately,
we know the truth about Jesus. Our Memory Verse says: Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through Me.’ John 14:6 NIV®”

Game
Example:
Say,
“We are going to play Topsy Turvy for Jesus.” Explain, “Just like the
experiment when we turned the cup of water upside down and the cardboard stayed
on even though there was pressure from the water, we are going to represent
that in our game. I am going to say, ‘Topsy Turvy for Jesus’ and you are
to put your hands out and turn around and around. When I say, ‘Freeze,’ you
stop and freeze with your current pose.”
Do
this several times and then discuss, “Sometimes things in life get Topsy Turvy
and if we turn to Jesus during those times, He will be there with us through
them. When people try to talk us out of our faith in Jesus, if we turn to Him,
He will be there with us and will strengthen our faith in Him. Remember when
things in life get Topsy Turvy, Jesus is the one to go to!”
