Day
3
Salvation
Jesus
strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone. And He said, “The son of Man must suffer many things and
be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and He must
be killed and on the third day be raised to life.” Luke 9:21 NIV®
[This
next passage is after Jesus has arisen from the dead]
They
asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with
us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
They
got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those
with them, assembled together and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and
has appeared to Simon.”
Then
the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them
when He broke the bread. While they were still talking about this, Jesus
Himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace
be with you.”
They
were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts
rise in your minds? Look at My hands and My feet. It is Myself! Touch Me and
see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
When
He had said this, He showed them His hands and feet. Luke 24:32-40 NIV®

Discussion
Example:
Say,
“It’s pretty amazing that Jesus knew ahead of time that He would suffer by the
chief priests and be condemned to be hung on the cross. Because Jesus is the
Son of God, He knew that if He faced all these terrible things and gave His life for us and our sinful nature, we could someday join Him in
heaven. Jesus had tried to prepare His Disciples for all of this ahead of time
and explained that He was going to arise the third day from the dead, but did
many doubted. Jesus actually went to the Disciples after He arose to prove He had arisen from
the grave.
“Two
of the Disciples were walking sadly on the way to Emmaus, because two women had
said that they had been to the tomb where Jesus had been buried and He wasn’t
there. Earlier, some followers checked out the tomb, and found out the
women were correct.
“They
were so busy discussing the recent events of the death of Jesus; they didn’t
even recognize when Jesus joined them as they walked. When they finally
realized that it was really Jesus, they rushed to tell the other disciples who
were doubtful this was true.
“Fortunately,
Jesus knew of their unbelief, and showed up where the disciples were eating. He
even offered to let the Disciples touch His hands and feet, so they no longer
doubted that their Savior had arisen from the grave.

Arts
and Crafts Example:
Each
child needs paper, crayons, brush, water colors, cup of water and protective
clothing like an old T-shirt or big garbage bag cut up the back with a hole for
heads and arms.
Say,
“We are going to each make a picture of either Jesus walking with the two
Disciples or Jesus showing Himself to the Eleven Disciples. If you use your
crayons to color hard, it will allow a much more dramatic effect when you paint
over the whole picture with water color. Yes, you will even paint over the
parts you colored.”

Science
Example:
One
pencil is needed for each student, but you should probably wash them off before
the activity and after. Ask, “What is your Hypothesis about what will happen
when you hold the eraser end of a pencil in your teeth and scratch the other
end?” Listen to all their Hypotheses.
Have
the children explain what happened. Say, “That when you scratched the end of
the pencil, you were creating sound vibrations and these vibrations traveled
through the pencil. Sound vibrations travel better through some things better
than others.” If you have time you can have them further test items like a new
plastic spoon, a piece of paper, etc. Let them share what the results of their
experiments are.
“Just
like the way that sound vibrations travel and are heard, we want to share our
love of Jesus Christ with others, so they get to know their Lord and Savior.”

Game
Example:
Make
a cardboard paddle with a short handle for every student, cut from boxes, etc.
You’ll also need a blown and tied balloon.
Say,
“We are going to play: Pass the Good News! You will each have a
cardboard paddle, but need to know these are made of cardboard and are not very
sturdy, so you will want to hold the back with your index/pointer finger and your middle finger while holding the
handle with your thumb and other two fingers.
“When
the Disciples saw Jesus and knew He had arisen from the dead, they wanted to Pass
on the Good News, so that others could develop a love for Jesus Christ
their Savior. You will tap the balloon back and forth between the group, trying
to keep it afloat. When you tap the balloon, you are supposed to say, “Pass
the Good News!”
