Day
2
Faith?
One
day Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us
go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set
out. As they sailed, He fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that
the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
The
disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”
He
got up and rebuked the wind and the raging water; the storm subsided, and all
was calm. “Where is your faith?” He asked
His disciples.
In
fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the
winds and the water, and they obey Him.” Luke 8:22-25 NIV®

Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of

Discussion
Example:
After
reading the lesson, ask the children, “Why do you think Jesus’ disciples were
so worried?” (Examples might be: they thought they would drown, die, etc. in
the storm.”
“Fortunately for them, Jesus calmed the storm. He can do anything, He is God’s Son.”
Respond,
“Why do you think Jesus was disappointed at their lack of faith?” (Examples
might be: they had seen Him heal people, feed thousands, etc. They should have
trusted Him, but we are human and sometimes doubt. I need to tell you, though,
that just because we love Jesus; all situations won’t always turn out the way
we ask.)

Arts
and Crafts Example:
You
will need straws, water color or poster paint mixed with dish washing soap for
easy clean-up of tables and clothes and a sheet of paper for each child.
Explain: “Jesus’ Disciples were tossed about in that windy storm and became
afraid. Jesus reminded them when He calmed the storm that we never have to be
afraid when things get scary. We can always turn to Jesus to calm us down and
get us through the things that happen in our lives.”
They
will put drops of different colors of paint on various places on their paper
and then blow the paint drops around on the paper. Remind them afterward,
“These paintings represent the storm, but remember we can always turn to Jesus
to calm us and He will be there with us through these scary times!”

Science
Example:
Give
small groups or pairs of students, different types of material such as paper,
construction paper, foil, waxed paper, plastic wrap etc. to build boats to see
whether they will sink or float. Have a dishpan of water to test these
creations. You may want to time this to see which floats the longest.

Example
of a Game:
Line
up students and number them off: 1, 2, 1, 2. Have all the 1’s line up together,
all the 2’s line up together. You will be at the far end of the area, but a
reasonable distance. Tell them that there’s a storm coming and have them run to
Jesus to take care of them. They are to run up, tap your hand and go back and
get the next person in the line, because they want to get their team to safety,
as well. After they tap the next person's hand, they line up behind you,
because you’re representing Jesus. When both rows are lined up behind you, you
can do it again with everyone hopping to safety, depending on how much time is
left.
